On the northern hemisphere, we are all looking forward to the colours and flowers of spring! Zuzi made an early bud bloom fully on her bead mat. Between the petals of Zuzi’s dahlia flower made of GemDuo beads and WibeDuos a sparkly Preciosa chaton is calling for attention.

R15A and R15B – 15/0 Miyuki round seed beads
R11 – 11/0 Miyuki round seed beads
C11 – 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads
CAB – 8 mm Preciosa rivoli or chaton
FP4 – 4 mm fire-polished beads
GD – GemDuo
WD – WibeDuo
Bezel the CAB with Peyote, using C11 and R15A beads.
Start with (22) C11.
Add One row of C11.
Close the bezel with (2) rows of R15A on the back and 1 or 2 rows of R15A on the front.
Finish by beading through a C11 in the middle row.

When working with rivolis, I add the rows of R15A on the front first, but in case of chatons the bezel is nicer if I start with the back.
Add C11 beads ‘in the ditch’ between the C11 in the middle row of the bezel.
Continue until exiting the second new C11 that you added.
Attach a C11 with square stitch to the C11 added in step 2.
Repeat the thread path to make the connection stronger.
Continue until exiting the next C11 added in the previous step.
Repeat step 3 all around the motif.
Finish by exiting a C11 added in step 4.
Add GD beads between the C11 added in step 4.
Continue until exiting the first hole of the second GD you added.
Add R11 beads between the first holes of GD.
These should sit on top of the C11 added in steps 3-4.
Continue until exiting the second R11 added in this step.
Pick up R15B.
Bead through the C11 in the front row of the bezel that is in one line with the R11 you were just exiting. This is the only C11 you are passing through.
Bead back through R15B.
Bead through R11 + first hole of GD + R11.
Repeat step 7 all around the motif.
Finish by beading through the second hole of a GD.
Add WD between the open / second holes of GD.
Continue until passing through the second WD you added.
Bead through the open / second hole of WD.
The thread will slide slightly behind the WD.
Add groups of R15A + FP4 + R15A between the outside holes of WD.
Continue until exiting the second R15A from the second group that you adedd.
Pick up (5) R15A.
Bead backwards through the second hole of WD.
Bead through (2) + (2) R15A, skipping the R15 in the middle of the group.
Bead through R15A + FP4 + R15A added in step 10.
Repeat step 11 all around the motif.
Finish by beading through the (5) R15A added in step 10.
Pick up (6) R15A. Or R15B, if you’d like an accenting colour.
Bead through (5) R15A added in step 12.
Repeat all around the motif.
