Danique earrings beading tutorial

The following Tulip Mania design was created for the ongoing Beadingschool Academy theme, by Zuzi Hake. She worked with beads selection from the Beadingschool Academy box, aiming for a simple design.

Zuzi says:

I’m a 100% flower girl and I love everything that grows and even better if it blooms! 🙂 Stormduo beads creates such a cute tulip-shape. It’s actually the second time I worked with them in a design inspired by tulips. The first was Mariette brooch. Now it called me to use the Preciosa sew-one rhinestone for more sparkle. It’s the smallest design I ever created and it carries the name of dwarf-sized tulip type, called Danique.

The motif can be also a nice connector in a bracelet or necklace and it is ideal for spending your leftover beads. Moreover, you don’t need lot of material and it is also very fast to make.

STD – 3×7 mm Stormduo beads

RS4 – 4 mm /ss 16 Preciosa sew-on rhinestone

R15 – 15/0 Miyuki round seed beads

R11 – 11/0 Miyuki round seed beads

C11 – 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads

Optional – bezelled 8mm Preciosa chaton, rivoli or Nacre cabochon,  drop, pendant, charm, to decorate the motif.

11/0 Tulip beading needle

0.12 mm / 4 LB Fireline

Arrange your STD beads to form a tulip shape as in the drawing.

Pick up STD + R11 + STD + (4) R15. Bead through the upper hole of STD.

Pick up R15 + RS4 + R15. Bead through the STD.

Pick up (4) R15 and pass to the bottom hole of STD you started from + R11.

Pick up (2) R15. Bead through the open hole of RS4.

Pick up (1) R15. Bead back through the same hole of RS4 + (2) R15.

Bead through R11 + STD + (4) R15.

Pick up (5) R15. Bead through the R15 between STD and RS4.

Pick up (3) R15 and bead through the R15 above RS4.

Pick up (3) R15. Bead through R15 between STD and RS4.

Pick up (5) R15, and bead through (4) R15.

Pick up (3) R15 + C11 + (3) R15. Finish by beading through the (4) R15s you started from.

Bead all around through the beads added in the previous step, with two small differences:

Skip the 3rd R15 from the groups of (5) R15s.

Add R15 + C11 + R15 between the two groups of 3 R15 from step 3, on top of RS4.

Continue until you are exiting the bead you started from.

Start beading all around the motif, skipping the C11 on the top.

Stop after exiting the C11 on the bottom of the motif.

Add (1) C11 with square stitch. Reinforce by repeating the square stitch.

Continue around the motif, until you are exiting the C11 on the top that you skipped before.

If you like to add an earwire, start from the C11 above the motif. Pick up suitable number of R15s to  attach the earwire, pass to the C11. You can find helpful tips in this video.

Secure your thread, knot and trim.

Ideas for the motif:

The middle C11 allows you to add a bezel to decorate the earring.

Use 22 C11 for creating peyote bezel for 8mm Preciosa chaton or rivoli – follow free “Forget-me-not” tutorial.

The motif can be used also as an embellishment, connector or part of your beaded necklace or bracelet.
