Dear beaders!
Yesterday we met for the first #CoffeeTimeWithErika of 2023.
First of all, I’d like to wish you all the best for the new year: happiness, health, calmness in your hearts and minds, and lots of creative ideas for your bead mats. I’d also like to thank you for the buzz in the Tresaury during the Advent season that we could experience thanks to you, and for all the lovely postcards, messages, kindnesses that we received. Thank you so much everyone who was thinking about us during the holidays!
At the beginning of the new year we often make plans for the upcoming 12 months. We ask ourselves questions. What do I want to achieve? Where do I want to travel? How many kilograms do I want to loose, and how many new jewels do I want to bead. And of course, I want to finish all my 954 UFOs (UnFinished Objects).
Does this sound familiar to you?
The result of this thinking is usually an extensive to-do list full of numbers, with a mental weight that eliminates our willpower in a matter of weeks, sometimes in days. It doesn’t matter if the list consists of professional goals or adventures that we’d like to have in our free time, the result is usually the same: a sour feeling in the mouth, and another kick in our own butt on the next 31. December, as again, we fall short of our own ambitions.
Today, I’d like to invite you take a different approach!
Instead of forging unrealistic expectations towards yourself, let’s look at where you are at the moment, and what you would like to experience or how you would like to improve your skills in 2023. Instead of noting a number that you’d like to achieve by the end of the year, just think about the direction that you’d like to take. And then keep taking tiny steps in that direction regularly. Instead of the distant goal of learning Spanish from zero to professional level, simply keep opening a language app every now and then to freshen up your mind in the mornings.
Instead of wanting to read 100 books, just keep one next to your bed and enjoy a few pages in the evenings, without the pressure of ‘I have to, otherwise…’ And when it comes to beading, instead of the goal to master all existing stitches, trying every possible colour combination, and getting rid of all the damned UFOs: just simply keep beading, and enjoy this beautiful hobby of ours!

All you need to do is to take those tiny steps regularly. We will make sure, that by the end of the year when you’ll look back at the collection of jewels that you made, you’ll be amazed by how far you walked, and how much you’ve learned. And in the meanwhile, enjoying it to the fullest, or as the Italian’s say: enjoying ‘La Dolce Vita.’
