Happy International Beading Week, everyone! 

From 23 until 31. August there’s a big celebration in the beading world going on: IBW, organised by the Beadworker’s Guild, is all about sharing the love of beading, raising awareness of beadwork, and enjoying the company of this big happy community from all over the world. There are many ways how we can raise awareness about beading, trying to encourage our friends to give it a try, or just have a little impact on the appreciation of beaded jewellery.

Wear your beaded jewels proudly, or combine two hobbies, and bead in public while sipping your coffee: maybe someone will ask about what you are doing, and you can talk a bit about our beloved craft.

I am happy and proud to be one of the ambassadors of IBW.

Together with fellow designers, we are preparing different events, programs, and designing tutorials for you. This year it’s all about wildflowers, and this is the bracelet that I designed for you! It’s made of Lily Flower beads, Preciosa crystals, and Miyuki beads. The flowers are supported with bugle beads from the back to prevent them from turning around.

I love the look of the Lily Flower beads!

They are coming from a Czech manufactory of beads – an enthusiastic multi-generational family dedicated to bead making. The Lilies come in beautiful colours, my favourites being the Picasso effect ones. The look is emphasised by engraved lines on the top and bottom – sometimes in a matching, and sometimes in a contrasting colour. The beads are 9×9 mm big, and have one hole running from the top to bottom.

This is what you will need for the workshop or to bead the bracelet on your own:

Be careful when calculating the number of Lily Flowers that you need!
One package is enough for max. 5 motifs from Toscana (if no hole is clogged, unfortunately it happens every once in a while). I need 6 motifs for my small-size bracelets with a pretty wide clasp. You can make the connections longer between the motifs by adding 6 mm fire-polished beads, for example.

After the first purple one there were three more motifs that I beaded. Two of them quite unusual for me, as I rarely play with red and periwinkle blue/purple. After the two slightly out of my comfort-zone colour combos this is something that’s 100% me and 100% where my beady energy is thriving: TURQUOISE!!! (with an Emerald rhinestone to deepen the tones).
