Jewels from “Bird of Paradise” box

If you are a Beadingschool Academy Student, I highly recommend putting together ‘mini kits’ for the jewels you’d like to make!

This way, you can make sure that you can finish everything that you’d like to. There are many possibilities to use the precious content of the Box, as not only the Beadingschool Creative Team but fellow designers are also designing jewels for you, and sometimes you’ll need to make decisions about how you’d like to use a component or add something from your stash if you’d like to bead them all.

PARADISAEA BY ERIKA

I wanted this pendant to be as rough as the adventures that the seafarers had to endure in the past, as intricate and eye-catching as nature in the newly reached lands, and just simply beautiful, too – that’s why I kept adding decorations, like the Dreamy Flower.

While most of the time the sparkliest part of a motif is the middle. Usually that’s where we see the biggest, shiniest cabochon. However, this time the middle is empty, and you will build up the jewel around the ring covered in Cubic Zirconias. It was originally part of the Paradise Toggle Clasp. But it’s nice to be creative and use components in many different ways. Labels should not limit our imagination!

Marigold, designed by Zuzi, was part of the Jewel of the Maharaja collection nearly three years ago. We beaded it recently during a retro #NoOneHasToBeadAlone workshop.s

I think since my brain doesn’t need to ‘process’ the basic tutorial from scratch, I often feel the urge to go beyond the original and explore what else is possible.

DOVE PENDANT BY VERONIKA

For each of these jewels, a different family member chose the beads for me. One bead selection is picked by my husband, one by me, one by my 7-year-old daughter, and one by my 4-year-old son. Can you guess which one was picked by whom? Here are some hints! My daughter loves Pokémon, my son’s favorite color is yellow, and my hubby would love us to live near the sea in Italy one day. This gorgeous button with intricate drawings immediately reminded me of the old Mesoamerican civilizations and their extraordinary art. As we are exploring the Bird of Paradise theme, I searched a little about Aztec birds, and I have found out, that in Aztec mythology, the dove represents the goddess of Art, Dance, Love and Music. Art and Love and such beautiful things! I find it so very flattering!

CHRYSOLOPHUS BRACELET BY VERONIKA

Strong are the golden and red colors of this bracelet. Almost like the colors of the golden pheasant (Chrysolophus pictus), birds who have bright-red feathers on their breast and underparts, a golden quiff and lower back, a striped, orange-and-black neck, and also has a long, finely striped tail. They are shy and surprisingly difficult to spot, as they keep to dark, dense woodland and roost in the trees at night.

Sure unlike you with this bracelet on as it is so shiny! Lots of cabs and adjustable length, sign me up for that! 🙂

MOLTRES EARRINGS BY VERONIKA

Some birds are even more legendary than others. That’s how it goes with Moltres. Let me tell you something about him. ​​He is large, with a light yellow plumage. It has a long, flowing head crest and a billowing tail, both made of reddish flames. Additionally, its wings are also shrouded in fiery plumage. It has a long, thin neck, a pointed, brown beak, and small, triangular eyes. Moltres sheds embers with every flap of its wings, creating a brilliant flash of flames. It migrates from the south with the coming of spring, and is said to bring an early springtime to cold lands. There have been stories of Moltres using its wings to assist those lost in the mountains. By dipping itself into the magma of an active volcano, he can even heal itself! 

And now – what was the part, that made you think – this is too wild, it can’t be a real bird! Yes you are right, although certain members of our family wish otherwise 🙂. Moltres is a legendary shiny pokémon! But certainly not as shiny as these earrings!

Birds, that love sea, and their purple breed is especially hardy, surviving even harsh winters. This reminds me of one special person, that chose beads for this cute pendant. Also – bezel from the rhinestones! Yay I was so happy it was possible 😀!

RAGGIANA BY ZUZI

Much like the Raggiana bird of paradise that it is named after, this pendant carries a sense of grandeur and splendor. Zuzi says: “Raggiana bird is known for its flowing, flame-colored plumes and vibrant display and I couldn’t think of a more fitting name for this design.”

Just as the Raggiana bird dances in the treetops, painting the air with its bright feathers, this design invite us to embracing our true colors, letting our unique spirit shine, and honoring the magnificent beauty that exists in every corner of nature. This design is beaded with a single thread and it offers options for a statement earrings, too. You can bead small size earrings from a single bezel with the 8 mm cubic zirconia, or connect more bezels into a bracelet. Did you think about a multicolor option? It’s possible!

This is the first signature jewel.

PLUMEA BY ZUZI

Zuzi chose this name that evokes beauty. It’s like a soft breeze stirring the delicate feathers of an exotic bird – just as the birds of paradise dazzle with their vibrant plumage and graceful movements. This simple motif shows the beauty of Crescent beads that remind us of the elongated feathers in a bird’s tail, and the shape of pinch beads that play with the light. Add a bezel on the top, or pendant drop to the bottom. Connect more motifs into a bracelet and experiment with colors.

PAROTIA BY ZUZI

This designs embodies the dance of life, filled with grace, rhythm, and radiant beauty. The name was inspired by the Parotia birds of paradise, known for their enchanting courtship displays. Parotia celebrates individuality, the art of standing out with quiet confidence, and the magic of life’s most intricate moments. The small bezel in the centre can set you off to your own beading adventure. The layers of 3 mm Miyuki bugle beads are meant to add a delicate structure and open room for more color combinations. You can also connect several motifs into a bracelet or a V-shaped necklace.

LOPHORINA BY ZUZI

This design by Zuzi carries a bit of mystique and enchantment, much like the birds it is named after. Known for their dramatic and famous courtship display that gives the illusion of transformation. Lophorina can be considered a “shape-shifter,” exactly as this design, which if  full of possibilities.

This jewel can be beaded continuously “in one go”. You can decide to work with its single elements, too. One of the idea is to make a matching bracelet from repeating the motif with baguette glass cabochon and the 6 mm Preciosa Sew-on rhinestone.

Just like a face with a crown, our friend designer Ruxandra Puscas is going to guide you through beading a bezel for 13×18 mm pear glass cabochons with flat back. Ruxi decided to show the beauty of the cab in these simple earrings.
You can extend the length of the jewel by adding a beveled chaton or crystal connector in a metal setting on top.

Vicky Roberts created another beautiful design for a beaded bracelet from the Bird of Paradise Theme box. She chose pinch beads to be decorated with sparkly Preciosa bicone beads.

The name of the design, Perigrine, derives from one of the fastest birds – Peregrine falcon.  This bracelet is also fast to make and elegant, like its real-life inspiration.
