We have a new box landing on our beadmats, ‘Fairy Forest’.  Let’s bead together the newest collection of Beadingschool Academy jewels!

You can bead these jewels from the March/April Theme Box of the Beadingschool Academy. As a Beadingschool Academy Student, you receive one or two signature jewel tutorials depending on your membership. Every Thursday, we bring you a #NoOneHasToBeadAlone workshop where you can use the same material. You can download these tutorials as gifts from Beadingschool for a limited time – 3 days after a workshop.

Additional tutorials will be available in the Bead Shop, and there might be more in beading magazines, and made by our friends – designers.

If you are a Beadingschool Academy Student, I highly recommend putting together ‘mini kits’ for the jewels you’d like to make!

This way, you can make sure that you can finish everything that you’d like to. There are many possibilities to use the precious content of the Box, as not only the Beadingschool Creative Team but fellow designers are also designing jewels for you, and sometimes you’ll need to make decisions about how you’d like to use a component or add something from your stash if you’d like to bead them all.

DRAGONFLY BODY BY ERIKA

Once, during every Beadingschool Academy Theme, we bead a RETRO #NoOneHasToBeadAlone design. This time, we returned to Dragonfly Body beaded bead. The motif can also be used to make a  pendant, earrings, or ornament.

MIORUILT BY ERIKA

Mioruilt means ‘miracle’ in Irish Gaelic.
Sometimes, it seems that we need a miracle in life. And let’s admit it honestly, none of us has found yet the magic wand or the secret elixir to make us happy, young, beautiful in a wink of the eye. However, we can take a small step towards a better life and a better version of ourselves every day. Again and again. Sometimes, we will have to change direction. Maybe even walk backwards, or we might fall. But as long as we can take a breath – we can also start again and again.
Who knows, maybe one day when we look back, the distance we covered and the difference we made in life will feel like a miracle.

Size of the motif is cm/inch: 2.5×2.5 cm / 1×1 inch without the charm.

With this tutorial, I will teach you a beautiful bezel for the 12 mm Princess Square Glass Cabochon. Navettes, chaton montees and seed beads are holding it from the top, while there is even more sparkle around the edges thanks to the icone beads. While the top part came to me easy, the back required much experimentation – until the moment when it all clicked.

TALISMAN OF HOPE

Veronka designed her Fairy Forest jewels along with a story she prepared for all of us:

“A woman once lived, in a city named Usual. And everything there was… well… usual. Not a bad life, you see, she should be happy – that’s what she’s been telling herself for years. But in her dreams, colors were somehow more vibrant. More – how to say it – colorful. And so she started to dream with her eyes opened. At least that’s what she thought, when she once found on her desk something, that was certainly not usual. A talisman. Talisman of Hope, she told to herself. A hope, that there is something more to life, than just surviving…”

Such light in hand, and also, such light in hand 🙂. Light as a feather, and light as a diamond. Let’s play with a little bit of negative space and airy constructions. You will learn not to be afraid to build a motif around a bezeled cabochon, even if “the bead count of delicas in the bezel doesn’t match your idea”.

TALISMAN OF COURAGE

“…Transported into a place of her dreams, or maybe to a different dimension? She looked at herself and wasn’t sure if that was really her. Because the woman she was looking at was somehow different. It was a woman full of life. In a place full of colors. And light. A jungle of beautiful brightness if you will. And suddenly she knew, that she was there for something. That she has a purpose, a purpose that she wants. Not just wants. It was something, that she needed. She knew it in her heart and her mind. But she didn’t know anything else. Just a strange sense of a certain direction, calling her name. She took a step. And a burst of courageous energy flew through her, with a Talisman of Courage, shining bravely on her chest…”

Hey, is that a pendant holder on the top of the necklace? No, you’ve seen it well, it is a clasp! Well, a part of the clasp. Doesn’t it match the center of the necklace just perfectly? Don’t be afraid to use unusual ways to hang your pendants :-). 

This necklace can be worn with its petals in the front, or in the back of the motif – the choice is completely up to you. Or you can make a smaller motif, that will be just as gorgeous as the bigger one. The motif is constructed in a way, that allows you to stop at more different points.

TALISMAN OF PERSISTENCE

“…It wasn’t an easy journey. Heh, that is for certain. But did she enjoy it? Very much. Finally living. Finally breathing in all the colors and sounds and nature and sky, and feelings and touch,… She was certain, that she was on the right way. There were some, that tried to hold her back. This isn’t appropriate you know? What about her? What about him? You can’t be that selfish. What about your hands? This has to be too hard for you. But she laughed just in their faces. You know, when you once try the taste of a free breath, of a bright life, you won’t stop, just because sometimes it is hard. You are not that much worried about where, or to whom the road will take you. Because you enjoy the road itself. And deep in your heart you know, that if you will follow the right direction, despite the challenges that it may bring, someone of the same heart and courage will join you. You will know, because they will have the other half of your Talisman of Persistence.”

Metal connectors can be a focal in the motif as well! Finish your jewel as a bracelet, make an eye-catching chain as I did, or try a different approach.

FERNALIA EARRINGS

Zuzi says: “The designs I created for the Fairy Forest theme are inspired by the box itself. While beading, I was thinking of various fairies, pixies and woodland creatures, their powers, appeareance and characters. I found some of the names of the designs in mythology and some of them are made up. You’re invited to join this little mythical world that surrounds us when walking in forest, park, or our garden – even if it’s just on your balcony! Let your imagination play its part.”

Imagine a fairy that is delicate and graceful and wears a crown of tiny blossoms. She summons morning dew to refresh the forest, leaving shimmering trails. She is joyful and carefree, loves to dance in sunlight. Dancer of the Morning Dew – Fernalia.

The small bezel is decorated with our favorite Preciosa sparkle – bicones and chaton montees. The motif is versatile and can be an earring, bracelet, or a ring. Experiment when adding the beads, you don’t have to follow the tutorial to the very end for interesting results. 😉

ELOWEN EARRINGS

Elowen – a beautiful Cornish name meaning “elm tree.” Gentle and nurturing, just like the Elowen pixie that sings lullabies that soothe the entire forest. Her home is in the shadow of the elm tree where she’s invisible to the mortals.

Let’s play with MobyDuo beads! The leaf-shaped motif can be also a bracelet or a ring.

SYLVARA BRACELET

Sylvara is a deity of nature, forests, and wildlife. She’s also known as a ‘Guardian of the Ancient Trees’. She can communicate with trees, hearing their wisdom, and guiding lost travelers. She’s described as elegant, and tall, with emerald green eyes. I think the name matches this bracelet design perfectly.

Bead a continuous motif of Mobyduos and fire-polished beads, with a bit of Preciosa sparkle into a bracelet! It’s possible to make a cuff by connecting 2 or more single-row bracelets together.

Size of the motif: 2.5 cm / 1 inch. Count with 7-8 motifs for a bracelet.

LIORA PENDANT/EARRINGS

Liora is gentle, nurturing, mysterious and powerful forest protector. Her names mean “light in the forest”. Liora is a guardian of the forest’s awakening—she ensures balance between night and day. She is both playful and wise, known for guiding lost travelers toward safe paths, but only if their heart is pure. She can vanish into golden dust, making her nearly impossible to capture and speaks in whispers carried by the wind.

We’re going to create a bezel for 11 mm Preciosa Chaton Rose and continue to extend the motif with the 2-hole Arrow beads and Preciosa bicones!

DEWDROPS EARRINGS

Aniko followed her inspiration and chose the Arrow and Lotus beads for her first design from Fairy Forest Theme box. A delicate drop shape can become a pendant, earring or a bracelet.

LACEWING PENDANT

This design was inspired by illustrations of miniature garden fairies tending to the flowers. I was inspired by the delicate shape of their wings and decided to incorporate the beautiful Fairy Wings Filigree into the design. The name of the pendant is inspired by the delicate fairy wings, but also by the insects of the same name which have beautiful delicate wings.
What beaders will learn:
This pendant uses peyote stitch to create a sturdy base and then explores different ways of embellishing the shape. This will give beaders ideas on how to create their own peyote shapes and embellish them, without needing a cabochon to form the centre of the pendant.
This is the second signature jewel and it is part of the Fuchsia membership.

AERENDIL PENDANT/EARRING

When I think of fairy forests, my first thought was of the woodland elves in Lord of the Rings. In the story, Galadriel, a queen of the elves, gives Frodo a vial containing the Light from the Star of Eärendil, to aid him in his quest to destroy the Ring. The Star is symbolic of a source of hope in dark times. This jewel is inspired by this idea of a shining star of hope.
This is a fun bezel using the unusual bar connectors, so this will give beaders ideas on how to use these type of metal components in a creative way.

AVERY EARRINGS

Inspiration: when designing these earrings I imagined a beautiful lake in the Fairy Forest at sunset, in which beautiful lotus flowers are mirrored in the water surface.

FAIRY FLIGHT PENDANT

The inspiration for this piece came from the beautiful and unique fairy wings filigree. It gave me the idea to go one step further from its actual significance (wings) and to integrate it in a piece symbolizing the actual movement of flying. I imagined a tiny colorful fairy fliying in the sunlight, capturing all sparkles and glimmers of the beautiful morning light, expanding her wings and closing them up again.

FAERY QUEEN PENDANT

Vicky says: I read a lot of books centered around the world of the fae, so when my Academy box arrived and I saw the title, I was instantly excited. As I unpacked and sorted through it, I was so drawn to the flower spacer bars, so much so, that I couldn’t get them out of my head and was desperate to use them; I love the result. With its almost non-beaded look and modern yet timeless feel, I named it “Faerie Queen.” This reflects the faerie queen archetype: beautiful, ancient, and therefore, timeless.

WILL-O’-THE-WISP PENDANT

Vicky says about her inspiration: When the boxes arrive, I often put the cabochons to one side with plans of spending some blissful hours doing a spot of bead embroidery, but when I saw the fairy meadow cabochon and the hexagon stones, I knew I wanted to use both in my design. The almost glowing colour of the cabochon made me think of a Will-o’-the-wisp, especially with how captivating all the detail is. Will-o’-the-wisps are described as enigmatic lights, often appearing as dancing flames, that have captivated imaginations for centuries. In folklore, these flickering apparitions are shrouded in mystery, believed to be everything from playful sprites and fairy guides to the restless souls of the departed. They are notorious for their deceptive nature, leading unsuspecting travelers astray, particularly into treacherous wetlands. While some tales suggest they might guide one to hidden riches, many more warn of their malevolent intent and the dangers they conceal.
