Jewels from ‘Sweet Margaretha’ box

We have a new box landing on our beadmats, ‘Sweet Margaretha‘.  Let’s bead together the newest collection of Beadingschool Academy jewels!

You can bead these jewels from the January/February Theme Box of the Beadingschool Academy. As a Beadingschool Academy Student, you receive one or two signature jewel tutorials depending on your membership. Every Thursday, we bring you a #NoOneHasToBeadAlone workshop where you can use the same material. You can download these tutorials as gifts from Beadingschool for a limited time – 3 days after a workshop.

Additional tutorials will be available in the Bead Shop, and there might be more in beading magazines, and made by our friends – designers.

BECOME A STUDENT OF THE BEADINGSCHOOL ACADEMY!

If you are a Beadingschool Academy Student, I highly recommend putting together ‘mini kits’ for the jewels you’d like to make, according to our recent Blog article!

This way, you can make sure that you can finish everything that you’d like to. There are many possibilities to use the precious content of the Box, as not only the Beadingschool Creative Team but fellow designers are also designing jewels for you, and sometimes you’ll need to make decisions about how you’d like to use a component or add something from your stash if you’d like to bead them all.

BUJUCAN BY ERIKA

This jewel is the second signature – part of the Fuchsia Beadingschool Academy membership.

Size of the motif: 3×3 cm / 1.18×1.18 inches.

THE TUTORIAL IS COMING IN JANUARY / FEBRUARY!

‘Bujucan’ means ‘seduction’ in Indonesian.

Instead of poison or a knife, that was Mata Hari’s most effective weapon. Hiding in plane sight, playing with words, playing with movement.

The Bujucan pendant is a square-shaped motif, with a 11 mm wide Preciosa chaton rose as the focal component. The pairs of PaisleyDuos or FlatDuos open up as the wings of butterflies. Fragile looking, just as Sweet Margaretha, yet holding power in every flap and every tiny movement. 

In between the 2-hole Czech shaped beads sit four special components: 6 mm Preciosa balls adorned with crystals all around. They bring playfulness besides the sparkle, and an intricate look to seduce you to bead the Bujucan in many different colors.

ENIGMA BY ERIKA

Once, during every Beadingschool Academy Theme, we bead a RETRO #NoOneHasToBeadAlone design. This time, we returned to Enigma earrings.

A RIBBON ENDING WITH A SURPRISE BY VERONKA

What would it be if we didn’t give you a good mystery for this box? Like the one called “What is hanging at the bottom of this ribbon?” 🙂

You can hang your pendants in many different ways, and this time we will learn how to do it by sewing them right onto a ribbon.

EYE OF THE DAY BY ZUZI 

Just like the meaning of the name Mata Hari, Eye of the Day blooms like a secret revealed. FlatDuo beads and delicate petals unfold around the eye, framing a radiant 7 mm Preciosa chaton rose maxima that glows with depth. Let the light dance across the shaped beads and crystals, creating an airy floral motif that feels both sensual and powerful, much like Mata Hari herself.

This design celebrates beauty that both sees and is seen, where mystery and brilliance exist in perfect balance. Elegant yet expressive, the motif captures movement and softness. Just like most of Zuzi’s #NoOneHasToBeadAlone designs, this one is also versatile and can easily become a bracelet if you connect more motifs together.

GEERTRUIDA BY ANIKO

Aniko says: ‘Geertruida is the name of the woman Mata Hari might have been. Named after her forgotten second name, never worn, never claimed, these earrings reflect a quieter destiny, untouched by intrigue or illusion. I imagined Mata Hari as her life would have been according to her original plan: Geertruida, the young kindergarten teacher, before transformation, before myth. A jewel of innocence, honoring the path left behind.

I ran out of the Tear glass drop that is included in the box, so I used another drop of a similar color and size. Beaders can also customize their Geertruida earrings with any kind of drops.’

Aniko says: ‘At first glance, Secret Code may appear intricate and enigmatic, like a message meant only for those who know how to read it. Yet behind its spectacular presence lies a quiet revelation: complexity is an illusion. The design is thoughtfully composed, allowing beauty to emerge through striking materials and components, rather than laborious technique. Secret Code is my invitation for hesitant beaders to step into bead embroidery with confidence and curiosity.’

HYDRANGEA BY LAURA

Laura says: ‘There is a Hydrangea called the Lady Mata Hari Hydrangea. It has the most beautiful multicoloured petals in lilac, with many dense layers of petals. The plant is captivating and unique, with multicoloured blooms representing the many facets of Margaretha’s identity. Beaders will learn to create five interconnected bezels with a single thread, reducing the number of ends to tie off! The bezel is sturdy and chunky, reinforced with layers of crystals.

Laura says: ‘Potentia comes from the Latin for power and strength. Sometimes life throws difficult things our way, and through inner strength and determination, we can weather the storm. Mata Hari inspires us as a symbol of feminine strength in very difficult times. Beaders will learn a novel way to bezel a 12mm rivoli, using Half Tilas, and how to add pretty embellishments which stabilise the motif.’

WALKING THE LABYRINTH BY RUXANDRA

Walking the Labyrinth Pendant captures in its essence the artistry and elegance of the handmade cabochon, which can be found at its heart. It is adorned with graceful indentations and delicate golden painting, which inspired the name of the pendant. The rest of the jewel is just meant to complement this beautiful piece of art.

This jewel is the first signature – part of the Fuchsia,  Turquoise and Yellow Beadingschool Academy memberships.

The pendant symbolises her extraordinary evolution, from being Margaretha Zelle to the glamorous, self-invented courtesan, and ultimately, the figure of the tragic spy.  At the core of this layered piece lies a sparkling jewel, representing the unwavering strength and resilience of a woman’s spirit, a radiant heart concealed yet protected by the multiple facets of experience and identity.’
