Jewels from “The Bavarian Princess” box

We have a new box landing on our beadmats, that connects the royalty and love for nature. Inspired by the Empress Elisabeth of Austria, commonly known as Sissi, and beautiful Bavarian Alps, is where we find inspiration for the upcoming weeks. Let’s connect together and bead our newest collection!

You can bead these jewels from the March/April Theme Box of the Beadingschool Academy. As a Beadingschool Academy Student, you receive one or two signature jewel tutorials depending on your membership. Every Thursday, we bring you a #NoOneHasToBeadAlone workshop where you can use the same material. You can download these tutorials as gifts from Beadingschool for a limited time – 3 days after a workshop.

Additional tutorials will be available in the Bead Shop, and there might be more in beading magazines, and made by our friends – designers.

BECOME A STUDENT OF THE BEADINGSCHOOL ACADEMY!

If you are a Beadingschool Academy Student, I highly recommend putting together ‘mini kits’ for the jewels you’d like to make!

This way, you can make sure that you can finish everything that you’d like to. There are many possibilities to use the precious content of the Box, as not only the Beadingschool Creative Team but fellow designers are also designing jewels for you, and sometimes you’ll need to make decisions about how you’d like to use a component or add something from your stash if you’d like to bead them all.

CARLINA BY ERIKA

Sissi was the wild child of Bavaria, and she enjoyed hiking and riding very much. She missed her freedom and enjoying nature a lot when she moved to the court in Vienna… I decided to take her back to her beloved Bavaria with the names of my jewels: I chose the names of flowers typical in that area! Carlina Acaulis means Silver Thistle.
The star-shaped glass cabochons are a recent favorite of mine: it’s easy to attach seed beads between the 5 points of the star. Then, you can keep going, adding more and more beads and crystals all around! It was hard to stop, and Carlina became a significant pendant that you can bead in at least two variations: with or without the Cali beads.

This will be the first signature jewel of The Bavarian Princess Collection! It means it is part of every Yellow, Fuchsia, and Turquoise membership.

As you can see, my second variation is slightly different! I left the motif star-shaped, without adding the Cali beads and the 4 mm Preciosa crystal bicones.

COLUMBINE BY ERIKA

The Columbine flower, with its delicate, intricate petals and vibrant hues, mirrors the enchanting landscapes of Bavaria, where the beauty of nature flourishes in every corner. Just as the flower stands resilient and graceful amidst wild meadows, Bavaria’s rich cultural heritage and breathtaking scenery captivate the heart and soul.  The necklace consists of several motifs of the star shape, similar to Sissi’s favorite hair accessories. It also reminds us of the Columbine petals.

GENTIANA BY ERIKA

The Bavarian Gentiana is known as the ‘Flower of Victory.’ I can only imagine that Sissi loved spotting these bright flowers during her hikes around her beloved Possenhofen.

It was one of those cases when I couldn’t stop: that’s why Gentiana has two variations! We will bead the smaller one during a #NoOneHasToBeadAlone workshop.

The set of small and big motifs is perfect for earrings and a pendant. Or, you can even join several of the small version into a beautiful bracelet – I think it would be beautiful 🙂

LUTEA BY ERIKA

Gentiana Lutea with its radiant golden-yellow blooms, stands as a beacon of sunlight in the steep mountain slopes. Each delicate petal is infused with the warmth of the sun. It’s a gentle reminder that even in the quietest corners of the world, beauty thrives in the most vibrant hues.

We created the prototype of this jewel during the Live Design and we’re going to bead it once more as a #NoOneHasToBeadAlone workshop.

Once, during every Beadingschool Academy Theme, we bead a retro #NoOneHasToBeadAlone design. It feels nice to compare what we liked back then and use new colors or material available in the box for the design.

DEAR SISSI BY VERONIKA

Franz and Sissi’s love story has always been so special to me, that once we even joked with my partner about tiny F in heart and S in heart tattoos :-). When designing Dear Sissi and Dear Franz jewels, I thought about them, and it felt like I was creating gifts that would they give to each other – one softer and one crispier, made with love and complementing each other.
With Dear Sissi pendant you can really set your imagination wild and free, and try different variations that I have prepared for you. Hint – double sided earrings and a pendant set anyone? 🙂

DEAR FRANZ BY VERONIKA

When creating Dear Franz, I really wanted to use a bezeled 8mm cabochon. But I didn’t feel like making either peyote or a square stitch bezel. So I challenged myself to try something different this time, but using only seed beads. And I am quite happy with the – surprisingly easy – solution, as it gave me more options for embellishing.
Long story short – I am looking forward to seeing your variations of the motif! And I encourage you to maybe challenge yourself with trying many different embellishments, after completing my version if you want! 🙂

FANNY BY VERONIKA

It is an interesting known fact, that Sissi took really good care of her hair. Well, better said – her lady of the court called “Fanny” took care of them. Around two hours long treatments every day, which Sissi spent studying languages, while her hair was being done. This person was so important for Sissi, that she even gave her some privileges not common for the ladies of the court. These earrings were inspired by this cherished hairdresser – not as big as the Queen’s, but still shiny and interesting to befit a royal court.

ACHILLEION BY VERONIKA

Fresh and neat, just as the beautiful castle that was built for Sissi in her beloved Corfu. Though this jewel was created as a pendant, it can be very easily made into an elegant bracelet! Just take this versatile motif and you can make almost any variation!

REBELLION BY NITTI

I believe that Sissi’s character and her feelings are things that we all can relate to. Her passion for her children, her urge to preserve who and what she used to be and her constant battle between staying true to herself and fulfilling her purpose. This last one, regardless, made her a rebellion.

This small, but mighty motif hides many little nuances to create something that catches the eyes.

FRAGILE BEAUTY BY NITTI

Fragile Beauty is a design that shows how beauty can be found everywhere. However not only the beauty that shows towards to outer world is the only kind of beauty that can be fragile. The inner beauty is just the same. The inner beauty, if not maintained by hard work, can simply flip and become a mirror. This reflection is represented by the four petals of this small flower. Captures the beauty of those, who admire it from close.

ALL THAT PRECIOUS BY NITTI

Erika visited me after her trip to Mexico and as expected we occupied a large table at a great vegan restaurant. After lunch we decided to play with The Bavarian Princess box, so we really needed the space. We chatted about memories and connections to Sissi and I kept going back to the star cabochons. They are really fun to work with and challenging enough to give you a great feeling of success. Stars are an amazing shape, but pentagons need more creativity. What are you going to make from them? I opted for a bracelet that uses this unusual shape in a simple way, but I came up with many more ideas.

GODOLLO BY ZUZI

Sissi had a special bond with Hungary and she was highly regarded by the Hungarian people. She spent significant time in Gödöllő Palace in Hungary, where she enjoyed a degree of freedom not found in the strict court life of Vienna. I believe this was one of the places where she was really happy – that’s one of the reasons why I chose this name for a lovely little motif that brought a lot of joy when I designed it.
This tutorial will learn you how to work with layers in the motif. You can use for your earrings, or a bracelet. Connect four motifs to the square and enjoy your pendant!

ROSENINSEL BY ZUZI

Roseninsel, also known as the Rose Island, is a small island located in Lake Starnberg in Bavaria. Sissi’s family owned a summer residence by the lake and she was again, far from the sight of people, court rules and closer to the beautiful nature. Later in her life, she used to visit Roseninsel that became notable as a summer retreat for the Bavarian royal family.
I chose the name for this pendant because the center resembles the fresh green island surrounded by the calm lake that reflects the golden rays of sunlight.
When designing this jewel I aimed for a new bezel, that would allow the small faceted cubic zirconia charms to shine. A pair of earrings or a bracelet is also an option for this design. The pendant is light and sturdy, so you can make a statement earrings, too.

PALMGARTEN BY RUXI

Nestled within the grounds of Schönbrunn Palace, the Palmengarten offers a serene escape with its vibrant, exotic flora, echoing the beauty and tranquility that Sissi herself cherished. Together, they are connected in history and nature, inviting visitors to explore the rich legacy of breathtaking surroundings. 

Inspired the this unique connection, our amazing friend-designer, Ruxandra Puscas created airy design with a bit of sparkle, using the zirconia charms.

Valerie, the youngest daughter of Empress Elisabeth, Sissi, and Emperor Franz Joseph, was deeply cherished by her parents. Her birth brought immense joy to her family, and she was affectionately known as “the little one.” Valerie was known for her gentle demeanor and kind-hearted nature. She treated those around her with kindness and respect, earning the affection of many, and leaving a rich legacy of grace, intellect, and compassion through her charitable work.

She inspired our amazing friend-designer, Ruxandra Puscas, to create this cute, little, and elegant motif with Cali, Miyuki Half Tila and microspacer beads, that is perfect for your further beading adventures.

ROMY BY RUXI

Do you also have a memory connected to the Sissi-movies, like so many of us? Recreate those magic times on your bead mat!
Ruxandra Puscas says about her new tutorial:
“I have called it the Romy Pendant, after actress Romy Schneider, whom I will forever associate with Sissi in my mind.
When we were children, my cousin and I used to watch the movie on VCR for hours every single day of the summer vacation and then we played “Sissi”, since we knew almost the entire movie by heart.
We used to take as many of my grandmother’s skirts as possible and wear them one above the other in an attempt to recreate the dresses from the movie. :))) Those were times like no other!”

Follow Ruxi’s tutorial and work with small drop cabochons. You can play with colors or choose a unified look for your new pendant, brooch or statement earrings.

    I loved beading Nitti’s Rebellion motif today. She’s a beautiful designer. I turned mine into earrings and borrowed a little of Ruxandra’s technique on the sides. My son encourages me to post pics!
