Jewels from the “Sayulita Sunset” box

If you are a Beadingschool Academy Student, I highly recommend putting together ‘mini kits’ for the jewels you’d like to make!

This way, you can make sure that you can finish everything that you’d like to. There are many possibilities to use the precious content of the Box, as not only the Beadingschool Creative Team but fellow designers are also designing jewels for you, and sometimes you’ll need to make decisions about how you’d like to use a component or add something from your stash if you’d like to bead them all.

JAMAICA PENDANT BY ERIKA

‘Jamaica’ (read chamaica) or hibiscus is a beautiful flower in rich, deep colors. Just as its namesake: the pendant which is the second signature jewel of the Sayulita Sunset collection of Beadingschool Academy. Funny, here in Mexico, I taste more Jamaica than I see. ‘Agua Fresca Jamaica’ is a popular sweet drink made from the flower!

The pendant consists of two parts, woven with a single thread. You will learn how to create the strong base from the Sayulita connectors and the 6 mm Preciosa Chaton Montees, then you will extend it with another motif featuring an oval dichroicglass cabochon. The lower part can become a matching earring on its own. In this case, you can use a different pendant drop at the bottom – the Fuchsia pears from the Academy Box match perfectly!

It’s the second signature jewel for the theme, part of Fuchsia Student memberships.

CARACOL PENDANT AND EARRINGS BY ERIKA

‘Caracol’ means snail in Spanish, and the curves around the middle part of this motif remind me of the sea snail shells I saw when walking in the shallow water on the beaches in Mexico. You can make the curves smoother (as in the earring variation) or more rugged with picots (as you can see in the pendant). Play with the colors of the fire-polished beads (use one or two as I did), and make as many variations as those little creatures that you can spot!

MARIA BY NITTI

Maria is a somewhat complex motif that uses individual elements, These elements are combined into one big mandala motif. As mandalas in general, you can stop at any moment and announce it finished, but why would you do that? 😉
You can decide to leave out the peyote petals and Chaton Montees or keep building the motif bigger and bigger!

Creating Maria you will obtain a cute little bezel for the 7mm Chaton Rose Maxima cabochons, you will learn how to join setted cabochons on the bottom and on the top as well to achieve a stable connection and a clumsy way of mine to make peyote feather decoration.

Maria is my friend who is the first to come to my mind when I think about strong women. I cannot think of making a pattern to honor her and not let it be a mandala! Her creativity shows in so many ways, but doodles and paintings are the closest to her heart. Let it be a mandala!

This is our first signature jewel and the tutorial is part of Fuchsia, Turquoise and Yellow membership.

CECILIA BY NITTI

Cecilia is a small pattern that embraces the simplicity and shows a fracture of what can be done with the help is SuperDuo beads. This small motif uses a 6mm SS29 Chaton Montee in the middle. The way the motif builds up make it possible to substitute it with a 6mm Preciosa sew-on rhinestone. Your motif will have somewhat less dimension to it, but you can bead it without any modification to it.

As Cecilia a bit bigger motif (around an inch), I suggest to use a connector in case you decide to make it into a pair of earring. Or just bead that tiny little connector element I added to it last minute.

COCO BY NITTI

Since I started to play with beads on my own I think I created more motifs that are built around the number four, than not. Whether you have a focal point or not, it is a number that is very easy to work with.

Coco is showing you that you don’t need to have a focal point to attract attention. You don’t even need beads or crystals to attract your attention. Solely the negative space in between the bling will give direction and clarity to your piece.

IRMA BY NITTI

Irma is a small bezel showcasing a 7mm Preciosa Chaton Rose Maxima in the middle. You can go for a pair of studs or decide to join three motifs together to create a playful springy motif just like I did.

Thanks to the connection points, which of we have plenty, you can create more intricate patterns stringing lacy elements around a motif or join them into a bracelet. Limit is the sky.

CARMEN PENDANT BY ZUZI

Carmen pendant by Zuzi bring you a new bezel for 7 mm Preciosa Chaton Rose Maxima that is build from Preciosa rondelles. Further in the design the rondelles change into a decorative element in the pendant, adding the extra color to match the superduo beads. While Erika used part of the Sayulita Sunset fold over clasp to decorate her Jamaica pendant, Zuzi used the folding part of the clasp as a bail!

Zuzi said: I love I could come up with a new kind of bezel, first I thought about the smaller motif for a bracelet or earrings, but I jumped on a way of inspiration and didn’t stop. I dedicate this design to honor a dear friend, my former colleague who is an exceptional woman. She is full of life, joy and love…and always supported my beading journey. Carmen, thank you!

Full of sparkle and sunset colors, with a bit of blue for the ocean, these earring motif can go a long way. You can extend it with bezelled chaton, or a drop on the bottom. It can be a brooch, pendant or a motif on your head pin to decorate the hair!

TIERRA EARRINGS BY RUXI

Mesmerized by the ocean’s beauty and the last rays of sunlight, Ruxandra chose the small dichroic cabochons to be the center of her TIERRA earrings. Earth, our home, is a treasure worth cherishing. Let’s care for it with love and gratitude.
This design is perfect from the front and the back (of course!) and it’s fairly quick to bead. It may be a wonderful necklace or bracelet if you connect more motifs together.
