Jewels from the “Syrens of the Northern Sea” Box

The Syrens of the Northern Sea have brought you a Treasure Chest last week, full of pearls, beads, and components. However, as we are getting friends with them, there’s more that they are now showing us from their mesmerizing underwater world.

Let’s see what kind of jewels are the Syrens – mermaids of the Northern Seas wearing!

If you are a Beadingschool Academy Student, I highly recommend starting to put together ‘mini kits’ for the jewels that you’d like to make!

This way you can make sure that you can finish everything that you’d like to. There are many possibilities to use the precious content of the Box, as not only the Beadingschool Creative Team, but fellow designers are also designing jewels for you, and sometimes you’ll need to make decisions how you’d like to use a component, or add something from your stash if you’d like to bead them all.

DUANA BRACELET,  EARRINGS, EAR STUDS AND BROOCH BY ERIKA 

Duana means ‘song’ in Irish and my heart is singing when I think about all the possibilities how you can play with this motif!

It has a small and big version, and little EXTRA! too, and you can even join them into a bracelet if you like. The three motifs that you can create from your Theme Box can be easily extended by adding more beads, crystals, or bezeled pearls or cabochons.

This is our first signature jewel for the ‘Syrens of the Northern Sea’ collection of the Beadingschool Academy, included in all Yellow, Turquoise, and Fuchsia memberships.

MARELLA PENDANT BY ERIKA 

Meralle is celtic for ‘Shining Sea.’

The intricate pattern of the focal component surrounded by the pearls and shiny bicone beads reminds me of the stormy surface of the ocean – intricate, deep, beautiful.

This is our second signature jewel for the ‘Syrens of the Northern Sea’ collection of the Beadingschool Academy, included in the Fuchsia membership.

The clasp is from my own stash, it’s this one: available in silver and gold.

MAEVE PENDANT BY ERIKA 

Maeve means ‘goddess of song’ in Irish. And while this design might be small in size, for me it’s the perfect embodiment of the mood that I aimed to create for you with the ‘Syrens’ Box. The shiny greenish-turquoise colours, the shell, but somehow even a shape of a fin are present here. With this tutorial you’ll learn how to bezel the 12 mm trillion cabochon in a claw and connect it to more components.

‘Jewel of the sea’ – and it can be yours, too! The smallest version of the motif was the first one that appeared on my bead mat, after I opened the ‘Syrens of the Northern Sea’ Beadingschool Academy Box. It was cute and just perfect, but then it kept evolving – in my mind, and later on my working station, too.

Will you bead all the versions with me? I have my mind on a necklace, too!

UNA SET BY ERIKA 

‘Una’ is Celtic / Welsh for ‘white wave.’ With all the tiny-shiny silver Miyuki seed beads, doesn’t this motif looks exactly like that? Even the curved angles remind me of the waves of the sea!

The motif is 100% universal and personalisable: for me it started out as a bracelet element, but the necklace was quick to follow. During our #NoOneHasToBeadAlone workshop I plane to make a pair of matching earrings.

ANET EARRINGS BY VERONIKA

These earrings were inspired by my friend Anet, who I let choose beads from the box that she liked the most. She also happens to look a little bit like Ariel the Little Mermaid, and the marine jewel tones of these earrings suit her very well.

“Of course. Glaciers are rivers of ice. Ahtohallan is frozen.”

Ahtohallan is an ancient magical frozen river located in the middle of the beautiful but dangerous Dark Sea. It appears in Disney’s Frozen 2 – Norwegian inspired fairytale.

KOLGA EARRINGS BY ZUZI

Kolga was one of the daugthers of Ægir, the god of the sea, and his wife Ran. She represents the wave and her name means “the cold one” what Zuzi tried to capture with choosing her color palette for this design.

Hronn, another of 9 daughters of Ægir, the god of the sea, and his wife Ran. Her name means “the wave” – soft, peaceful, with silver foam reflecting the sun, but also dark, powerful and high when the storm is near. This design is perfect for a bracelet!

DUFA PENDANT BY ZUZI

Dúfa, the daughter of Ægir and Ran, whose name means “dip”.  Taking a dive in shallow waters allows us to observe the underwater life and to collect shells that are like precious gems of the sea.

Rán, is a goddess and a personification of the sea.  And every goddess needs a statement jewel, right?
The sea is the cradle of life, and Rán, as its guardian, nurtures and sustains existence. Her ever-flowing currents symbolize the constant cycle of life and remind us of the eternal connection between all living creatures.

MELUSINE EARRINGS BY RUXI

Our friend-designer Ruxandra Puscas prepared an earring tutorial where she combined her beading skills with inspiration from a legend about Melusine.
🧜‍♀️ Melusine is a figure from European folklore, particularly from the medieval legends of France and Luxembourg. She is often depicted as a beautiful woman with the lower body of a serpent or fish, depending on the version of the story.
