We have a new box landing on our beadmats, ‘Towards the Lighthouse’.  Let’s bead together the newest collection of Beadingschool Academy jewels!

You can bead these jewels from the July/August Theme Box of the Beadingschool Academy. As a Beadingschool Academy Student, you receive one or two signature jewel tutorials depending on your membership. Every Thursday, we bring you a #NoOneHasToBeadAlone workshop where you can use the same material. You can download these tutorials as gifts from Beadingschool for a limited time – 3 days after a workshop.

Additional tutorials will be available in the Bead Shop, and there might be more in beading magazines, and made by our friends – designers.

BECOME A STUDENT OF THE BEADINGSCHOOL ACADEMY!

If you are a Beadingschool Academy Student, I highly recommend putting together ‘mini kits’ for the jewels you’d like to make!

This way, you can make sure that you can finish everything that you’d like to. There are many possibilities to use the precious content of the Box, as not only the Beadingschool Creative Team but fellow designers are also designing jewels for you, and sometimes you’ll need to make decisions about how you’d like to use a component or add something from your stash if you’d like to bead them all.

SEA BREEZE ROSE BY ERIKA

Some of you noted that the ‘Towards the Lighthouse’ Theme uses the same colors as the ‘Rosetta Window’, but in different intensities. And indeed…

I have created them both, and I am the same. But I am discovering the softness and being gentle inside me, after a life where I always had to be strong, fight, and win. Finally, I am focusing on the lighthouse inside, finding the direction that feels good, without using the map that was drawn up by other people, following a different logic and different goals. Because a map drawn by others keep you within the frame – even unintentionally. The magic moments in life happen when two maps, drawn by two different people, overlap. Not when you keep adjusting yours beyond what is in alignment with your soul, because you want to travel together, no matter what.

The new map is not always easy and straightforfard to create. It needs to follow what feels good, trusting that it will bring you closer and closer towards the treasure that you hope to find, and that the journey will bring the joy of discovery and adventures. Not because of the waves being higher or lower, the wind blowing faster or slower. But because of it being your map, colored with shades that you are attracted to.

MOONLIT WAVE BY ERIKA

The inspiration for this super fast to bead, yet shimmering, elegant motif came from the first component I selected to play with from the ‘Towards the Lighthouse’ Beadingschool Academy Theme Box: The light Spacer Bar.  There is something magical in how small this motif is, yet, it radiates something that makes you remember it: just as adventures, memorable moments don’t have to last a lifetime to make them meaningful. Sometimes, quite the contrary: they feel perfect because they are gone. Let’s learn to treasure them, no matter what, and aim for as many magical, moonlit moments in life and beautiful jewels on our bead mats as possible. After all: happiness is not a perpetual state, but consists of everlasting fleeting moments of life.

EMERGE BY ERIKA

Sometimes, waves are higher than you hoped for. Sometimes the wind is so strong it feels overpowering. And indeed, you fall into the water, and the waves close above your head, for a minute, until you gather your strength and start swimming. With the ‘Emerge’ necklace, my message to you is to trust yourself, that you are capable, you will reach the surface, and it will feel like being born again once you take a new, deep breath, filling your lungs fully and feeling so much alive that you would have never imagined before.

MATERIAL LIST for one motif:

I was inspired by the metal components in the Towards the Lighthouse Beadingschool Academy Theme Box, and I included one of the clasps as kind of a bail and hanger in the necklace. This part is optional, and you might want to finish your motif separately. In case you would like to do the same as I did, you will need a 4×34 mm Circle Toggle Clasp Antique bronze and a 17x17mm Diafan bead.

I took apart the toggle clasp: the ‘T’ is the connection between the necklace and the big beaded part, and the ‘O’ part is framing the Diafan bead. It is also keeping it in place so it doesn’t turn around! The style matches the sailor theme perfectly. What do you think?

Once, during every Beadingschool Academy Theme, we bead a RETRO #NoOneHasToBeadAlone design. This time, we returned to the beloved Peregrina earrings.

BEACH TREASURE BY VERONKA

Imagine walking on a beach, just next to the Lighthouse, and something shines on the sand! A beautiful shell that you immediately want to wear somehow, so you decide to make a jewel out of it. 

I attempted to capture the colours and feeling of this idea on my bead mat. The connection of the fragile shell with a daring spike intrigued me very much, and the spike goes so well with the earring finding from the box. 

This jewel plays with changing straight lines into curves, and combining clear shapes with a delicate embellishment.

DIRECTION BY VERONKA

When creating this jewel, I thought about my husband, and the little cuteness he once told me, as he smirked at me: “You are my port, I have docked here.” This jewel looks like a small compass, with “our” colours (his blue, mine red), that showed him the path to me, when we didn’t yet know each other. And that’s why I love to look at it, and will gladly wear it often.

I wanted to include a sailor’s knot clasp in this design, and decided to make it as a connector! Don’t pull yourself back, try to experiment as well 🙂

SHELLSONG BY ZUZI 

Zuzi says: ‘I live in Slovakia and we don’t have a sea. Every time I visit a different county with a seaside, I’m excited about it – it opens up a new horizon, experience, and inspiration. This design is inspired by fragments you may spot on a seashore, summer memories, and the feeling of walking along the shoreline. With eyes to the ground, hands brushing against time-worn shells, beads of sea glass, and tiny treasures shaped by the waves. Each component in this piece holds a memory of such a moment — of salt air, of wind playing with your hair, of sunlight reflecting from the water. The colors echo soft ocean blues, reds of the lighthouse brick or paint of a boat, sand-washed creams, and the deep mystery of marine shadows.’

The bezel works well on its own, providing further inspiration for making a bracelet, or connector in a necklace.

ELYSIAN LIGHT BY ZUZI

There is a kind of light that doesn’t come in brilliance or drama.
It arrives softly—like morning mist lifting over a still ocean.
No crashing waves. No sharp edges. Just clarity.

Elysian Light draws from those rare, quiet moments when peace feels earned. Not because life has been easy, but because you’ve made it through. You’ve faced storms and silence, drifted far from shore, and still found something true in yourself that could not be drowned or dimmed.

The piece holds that memory—of golden light after rain, the shimmer on the sea that feels almost holy. Its aqua tones speak of renewal.The iridescence of hidden beauty that only appears when viewed from the right angle.The golden edges—soft and warm—whisper of the sun finally breaking through.

This is not a light that leads you away from yourself. It leads you back—to center, to stillness, to truth. It reminds you: the storm did not take you. You are still here. And you shine.

LONICERA BY ANIKO

Aniko says: ‘Lonicera was born from the windswept stillness of Schiermonnikoog island in the Province of Friesland, the Netherlands, where even 2 lighthouses – one red and one white – stand as quiet guardians of the shore. Named after the wild honeysuckle that blooms across the island, my earrings mirror the flower’s elegant form and vibrant spirit. Lonicera is more than an island flower; it’s a symbol of beauty that flourishes even in solitude, and of the inner compass that always points us back to hope, clarity, and purpose.’

It’s a simple shape, however the threadpath doesn’t run in circles, but in waves. Beaders can gain more practice in this type of threadpaths with the Lonicera design.

PARNASSIA BY ANIKO

Aniko says: ‘Parnassia is a tribute to one of Schiermonnikoog’s quiet treasures, a star-like wildflower that blooms humbly in the island’s meadows. Its fine white petals with subtle lines and golden details are mirrored in the gentle glow of pearls and crystals, while the pink drops recall the blush of the flower’s soft center. Delicate yet enduring, Parnassia speaks to the heart of our Towards the Lighthouse theme: a symbol of clarity, simplicity, and the quiet strength found in nature’s smallest wonders. Just like the lighthouse, this flower doesn’t shout, it glows.’

The motif is dimensional. Beaders can learn a quick bezel that can be used for any type of cabochons, and a way to achieve structure even with a simple circular thread path.

OCEAN COMPASS BY LAURA

 In life, sometimes it would be wonderful to have a compass to tell us which way to go when we are facing the waves. I imagined the Navette as a compass needle which points the way to the lighthouse, a beacon in the distance!

What beaders will learn: The large navette is the star of the show here, so I created a way to bezel the top part while leaving the bottom half free. We use sections of peyote with beads in between to create a sturdy structure.

The motif can be made as a pendant or earrings.

Size of the motif: 4,6 x 2,8 cm / 1,8 x 1,1 inch

GOLDEN OYSTER BY LAURA

As a child, I loved to collect shells from the seaside, as a memento of happy times at the beach. Some of my first attempts at making jewellery used shells from my collection. These earrings are inspired by this playfulness and simplicity, drawing on the inner child, yet creating something more glamorous and sophisticated!

What beaders will learn: In this design we use short sections of peyote to frame the centrepiece, while creating a secure base for the spacer bar to be displayed. This will give beaders ideas on how to frame a cabochon without bezelling it fully, and also how to use connectors in more complex ways.

Size of the motif: 4.5 x 2.4 cm / 1,77 x 0,94

LIGHTBEAM BY RUXANDRA

These earrings are inspired by the shape of the lightbeam coming from a Lighthouse. It helps guiding people safely into harbours and it might also warn them of hazardous coastlines. Therefore it can be also regarded as the beam of hope.
This design integrates larger shaped beads, like navettes and canoe beads.

Size of the motif: 2,3 x 5,3 cm /0,9 x 2,08 inch

SHOW ME THE WAY BY RUXANDRA

Ruxandra says: ‘This Pendant is inspired by the shape of the compass needle, which is the beacon of hope, leading to safety. When you are lost it represents the mental anchor into the confidence that everything will be alright in the end and you will find your way home.
The design features an amazing Fancy Slim Navette from Preciosa, which inspired it. Due to its large size it has so many great potentials.
In this particular design the idea came to me to bezel its ends separately and differently, without having them connected in any way. Thus the beautiful elongated shape.’

This jewel is the second signature – part of every Fuchsia Beadingschool Academy membership.

BEYOND THE DEEP BY VICKY

Vicky says: ‘When creating these earrings, I drew initial inspiration from the beautiful coral of the deep blue sea. However, as I finished the first one, the central piece instantly reminded me of a memorable, slightly terrifying, but amusing holiday story involving my husband, James. Just days before a trip to Majorca, James broke his collarbone mountain biking. Despite this, we went, and he was determined to make the most of it. One afternoon, he decided to go snorkelling alone without telling us where he was headed. He returned with quite a tale: while enjoying his underwater adventure, a large eye suddenly opened up beneath him—it was an octopus. He quickly “high-tailed it out of the sea,” as he put it, and scurried back to our villa. Looking at the earrings, I saw that very eye in the centre, and the tiny 15/0s wrapped around each corner now seemed to represent the close call James had with his eight-tentacled friend.’

EYE OF THE STORM BY VICKY

Vicky says: ‘This necklace is a three-part journey in design. It begins with its foundation: a compass-inspired component where four Navette stones mark North, South, East, and West. Above this, a large Navette forms a sparkling bail, designed with the idea to be an “eye” watching over the wearer, both pieces a symbol of protection and guidance. Completing the piece, five square-stitched bezels are placed to evoke swirling pools of water, representing life’s constant ebb and flow. Like searching for a lighthouse in a storm, these elements represent resilience, guidance and an unwavering spirit that will always lead you home, wherever that may be.’

Size of the necklace is 17” (43 cm)

Vicky says: ‘Amongst the contents of the box, the 16mm Preciosa button caught my eye. It make me think of the mysterious ocean depths, where you might find a solitary pearl, nestled within an exquisite shell, resting on the ocean floor. It’s also a tribute to the allure of mermaids, adorned with their own sparkling jewels, their siren song echoing through the water, to lure sailors to Davy Jones’s locker.’

This jewel is the first signature – part of every Yellow, Turquoise, and Fuchsia Beadingschool Academy membership.

Size of the motif:  5.5” (14 cm) for the pendant to the bail
