The inspiration forย Contessaย began with a family city break to Cologne at the start of the year. My daughter Milly had her heart set on visiting the magnificent cathedral, and as always, our trip turned into a little cultural adventure. Art galleries and museums are a must for usโand this time, the Museum of Applied Arts became a highlight I wonโt soon forget.
What truly captivated me was the jewellery collection. From the elegance of early 1800s pieces to the charm of modern and whimsical designs, the display was a feast for the senses. I was especially drawn to the paruresโjewellery sets featuring a central stone embraced by delicate metalwork, pearls, and smaller accents. They were intricate, regal, and full of story.
By the time we left the museum, my mind was racing with ideas. I couldnโt wait to translate that old-world grandeur into beadwork. And just like that,ย Contessaย was bornโa piece inspired by tradition, elevated by creativity, and rooted in a moment shared with my family.
