THE STORY
The history of the House of Esterhas or Esterhazy has begun centuries ago. The first written document about the dinasty comes from the middle ages.
History is never black and white, and many of the incidents can be interpreted in several ways. There are different viewpoints and interests. Sometimes even our own memory cheats us when we try to remember the details of a meeting. Experiences of the same day can also differ, as every nuance of it is underlined by personal flashbacks and our own character, too.
It is not the place to talk about the Esterhazy family’s positive or negative role in revolutions, changes and political happenings of long gone eras. Instead of that I would like to remember their role in supporting arts and artists. Being the wealthiest family in the Habsburg Empire (sometimes with income greater than the Emperor’s) allowed them to have a serious impact.
For example on the life and works of Joseph Haydn, who was a valued guest at the family’s summer mansion in Eisenstadt or Kismarton every year. And the family was fond not only of music and high arts, but they cherished the fine craftsmanship of talented jewelry makers, too.
What do you think, would one of the Esterhazy ladies wear this bracelet, too?
