Vajco pendant beading tutorial

This design was inspired by Easter and its traditions of decorating homes with painted eggs. “Vajco” in the Slovak language means “Egg”.

It is a quick and variable motiv, you can sew it on a filigree and make a brooch or a pendant, or just keep it simple and make a pair of earrings. There are many possibilities how to connect more motifs together and make a bracelet.

Keep tight tension, especially in step 4, but pay attention to not cutting the thread at the edge of the bicone beads.

R15 – 15/0 Miyuki round seed beads

C11 – 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads

P2 – 2 mm True2 glass pearls

MGD – 4 x 6 mm Mini GemDuo beads

GD – 5 x 8 mm GemDuo beads

DD – 5 x 7 mm Round DropDuo beads

RS6 – 6 mm /ss 30 Preciosa sew-on rhinestone

BIC3 – 3 mm Preciosa bicone beads

Optional – bezelled 8mm Preciosa chaton, rivoli or Nacre cabochon, drop, pendant, charm, to decorate the motif, earring findings

Start by picking up (6) GD. Tie a knot, then bead through the first GD.

Pick up RS6 and bead through the GD on the opposite side in the opposite direction, bead through the next GD as well.

Bead through the other hole of the RS6 and through the GD in the opposite side and in the opposite direction.

Bead through the second hole of the same GD.

*Pick up MGD and bead through both holes, then bead through the next GD.

Pick up C11 + BIC3 + R15 + DD and bead through the next GD.

Pick up DD + R15 + BIC3 + C11 and bead through the next GD.

Repeat from the * and finish by beading through the first hole of the first added MGD.

*Pick up (4) C11 and bead through the next hole of the MGD.

Bead through the GD + C11 + BIC3 + R15 and pick up (4) R15.

Bead through (2) DD and pick up (4) R15, then bead through the R15 + BIC3 + C11 + GD + MGD.

Repeat from the * and finish by exiting from the BIC3 before the C11.

*Pick up (2) P2 and bead through the (4) C11, then pick up (2) P2 and bead through the BIC3 + (5) R15.

Pick up (6) C11 and bead through the (5) R15 + BIC3.

Repeat from the * and finish by beading through the next C11 + both holes of the GD + GD + both holes of the next GD + C11.

*Pick up (2) C11 + (5) R15 and bead through the DD, then through the (3) C11 in the opposite direction.

Pick up R15 and bead through the (3) C11 + DD + R15 that you just added.

Pick up (4) R15 + (2) C11 and bead through the C11 + GD + both holes of MGD + GD + C11.

Repeat from the * and finish as in step 5.

Bead through the (3) C11 + R15 + GD + R15 + (3) C11 + GD + both holes of the MGD + GD + (3) C11 + R15 + GD + R15 + (3) C11 + GD.

Secure and trim all threads.
