WHEN I SIT DOWN TO MY BEAD MAT, everything beyond the frame seizes to exist for a while. There can be music, there can be the smell of a candle that I lit, but the daily worries matter no more.
🍃🥀
The cabochons, beads, components act like building blocks of a colourful little world where I can disappear, or that I can take on my wrist, ear, or neck with myself as a talisman when I’m back to my everyday tasks.
Sometimes the world is blue, sometimes red, sometimes green, pink, and purple, all together.
What does beading mean for you?
I don’t think it was ever a real question what I want to do once I grow up. All my longings to become a writer, a teacher, or an actress (despite not being able to recite, dance, or sing) had something in common: the will to play, to create, and to take others on the colourful journey I’m living.
😶 My voice was once broken. People who should have protected me said to be good and silent instead. Still, their doubt shakes my words every time when I try to speak up, and even 30 years later, they make me sound uncertain and sometimes question myself.
💪 However, I can be strong and bold and show all shades of my soul once there are beads between my fingers or I can hold a pen in my hand.
🕊️ Beads can be your voice, too. They can say whatever you like:
“I want to make something beautiful.”
“I want to be beautiful.”
“I need to take care of myself.”
“I want to be part of this group where they accept and love me with the colours I bring.”
“I want to choose my own colours and be proud of them.”
“It is perfectly ok to play as an adult, and I’m allowed to make mistakes.”
“I’m learning every day and I’m proud of myself.”
WHAT DO YOUR BEADS SAY when you sit down to tend to them?
WHAT DOES BEADING MEAN FOR YOU?
🎴For me, it’s a way to tell you who I am. It’s healing for my soul when I feel sad and vulnerable, and it’s sparkle and joy, when I want to shout into the world how happy I am. It helps me to express what’s hard to describe, and to open up when otherwise I’d shut my doors and windows tight. Beading brings colours, it brings light, it brings connections – not only with thread and needle.
