What is a Preciosa Chaton Rose Maxima?

Chaton Rose Maxima Preciosa cabochons look similar to a chaton on the top, but they have a flat bottom. You can bezel them as other types of round stones (chatons and rivolis), and thanks to the flat surface they can also be glued – on top of beadwork or on a metal component. The word ‘Maxima’ marks the highest end crystals that Preciosa manufactures. These exquisite crystals have more facets (‘faces’) and therefore they are shinier, concentrating more light inside every crystal!

These elegant Preciosa Flatback Stones are just like a rainbow of captivating colors and coatings. One single chaton rose reflects up to 264 unique rays of light!

1. Bezel and/or Glue!

A nice and easy ‘introduction’ to the shape is to bezel it with Square Stitch and glue it on a simple earring post with a flat pad. It’s fast and easy – you can make it in every of your favourite colour so they match all the bracelets, necklaces, and pendants that you make.

What do you need?

• Chaton Rose Maxima
• Use a flat-pad ear stud
• E-6000 (or other glue for connecting metal with glass)
• toothpick or precision tip.

If you decide to bezel the 7 mm size, use 19 Miyuki Delica beads and follow the square stitch tutorial!

2. Decorate the earring component!

While we are at earring posts, you can use the Preciosa Chaton Roses to make matching findings for your beaded motifs! Simply glue a Chaton Rose on a flat pad ear stud with a loop, with the loop hanging over the edge of the crystal. That’s where you are going to attach all kinds of beaded motifs! And the Chaton Rose will sparkle on your ear 🙂

An added bonus: if you need bigger earstuds to cover the the hole in your ear more, this is the solution!

3. Let’s stay with ear studs a little longer!

A simple square-stitch bezel is not all that you can do. You can bezel the Chaton Roses in many different ways. You have two possible solutions for attaching the metal part: either glue it on after the last thread is cut, or insert it while beading and cover the back of it with beads.

Zuzi used a single motif of her Nova bracelet to prepare cute gifts for her friends in the Treasury Team! Even those who opt for slightly smaller jewelry fall in love with these.

Zuzi’s tip: When closing the bezel, insert the Chaton Rose that is already glued to the earstud.

4. Grow from a simple, to more complex design

Thanks to Zuzi’s genial solution, the Nova can go bigger and wider if you wish so! Into a pendant, statement earrings, or a beautiful bracelet of any width you prefer. You can work with the same thread, no need to start anew for every segment, and there will be a sparkly Preciosa Chaton Rose twinkling at you in the middle of each little square!

5. Decorate the filigree!

You can decorate a filigree with gluing the Chaton Rose to it – as on this picture, the beautiful historic Dolce Vita filigrees that we revived specifically for this La Dolce Vita Academy theme, and the 7 mm Chaton Rose Maxima Preciosa crystals glued in the middle. It became a connector in the statement necklace.

You can make a pendant, or simple earrings when you decorate it in similar way 🙂

7. Layer up different sizes of cabochons!

Did you know, that you can layer cabochons on top of each other for an interesting look? The 7 mm Preciosa Chaton Rose fits exactly in the middle of a 12 mm cushion cut cabochon. What a coincidence, we can’t just walk beside this! You need to be super careful, as you don’t want glue dripping over the cabs, but with a toothpick (especially a flattened one) it’s easier to manipulate with the glue!

Try this trick for more color and sparkle!

8. Create extending element of a simple bezel

5 motifs are too little, and 6 are too long for a bracelet? You can easily make the exact length for your jewels by adding a square stitch bezelled Chaton Rose  in between the motifs or between the last motif and the clasp. I did something similar with my Fleur bracelet when I added a 14 mm Lotus round cabochon and I added similar extension to my Harmony bracelet. I love that detail!

9. Continue to bead on!

Who says that you need to stop after bezeling the Chaton Rose with a square stitch? You can bead on and on, until achieving a mandala pattern! Just be careful when planning your motif: since the size requires you to use 19 Miyuki Delica beads in the first row, it is a bit tricky to find the right combination of beads without the possibility of perfect symmetry, but definitely worth this creative beading adventure!

10. Bead the Frozen Lake by Veronka!

They are sparkly and eye-catching, but the bezeled little crystals fit well into a supporting position, too, not just the main role. Do you remember Veronka’s masterwork, the Frozen Lake pendant? Around the 18 mm cushion cut Preciosa crystal you can find four little bezels – each of them with a Preciosa Chaton Rose inside!
