Filigrees and your jewelry
Janis J pendant with Circle Dance filigree is a beautiful bead embroidery project that has an interesting star-shape. The colorful ultra suede shows its color through the filigree. You can decorate the filigree with extra beaded motif, beads to fill some of the holes too.
Circle Dance filigree can be used also as a base for holding your bead weaving motif and used in pendant or brooch.
Aztec Sun design is based on the beauty of Aztec filigree and small navette art quality cabochon. It shines like the sun and I recommend it if you like to begin with bead embroidery and also try to bezel other than a round shape. 😉 If you are not sure about your color way, you can always choose one of kits designed by Zuzi.
I used Raindrop filigree to decorate the Louisiana motif. The filigree can be turned in direction and decorate your beaded motif or bead embroidery.
Nuenen design is rich in sparkle and it was originally designed for a pendant in the 2nd Beadingschool Academy theme, dedicated to Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh. Our fellow Beadingschool Club member, Aniko Hesz, took the Maharaja filigree, added a pin to the back, and created a beautiful brooch!
This is another bead embroidery project, India-inspired “Moon Goddess”, Chandr Devee. The Victoria filigree was also used to decorate Rock my Heart! pendant, but it can be complete and be attached to any other bead weaving motif as well. Its size makes it very light, try it in earrings!
Forget-me-not is based on simple peyote bezel, with 8mm Preciosa Pure chatons in the centre. The “see through crystal” effect maximizes sparkle and I recommend to used it in earrings. This tri-bezel motif is attached with few stitches to Tie filigree, decorated with glass drop in a metal setting.
This Flower Statement filigree has a lot of history in its background, it was recently revived for Beadingschool. It’s fairly large, but perfect in every detail. Zuzi used it to hold her Jailsalmer motif, added glass pearls to create necklace. It is perfect size to support also bead embroidery motif and it can be turned into wonderful vintage-looking brooch!
Petit Oval filigrees are tiny work of art with amazing amount of detail. Zuzi used them to create earring by glueing 8mm Preciosa Nacre cabochons to the center. They can be used as a connector in necklace or also bracelet.
Last, but not least, I need to pick and show a little addition in metal components – gold color connectors with cubic zirconia. They complement whole Maharaja’s Jewel theme we live and bead in January and February in Beadingschool Academy. I bezeled 12mm Preciosa Nacre pearl and decorated the connector with extra Preciosa crystal beads and drop.

I love them and when I started using them I used them to support pieces I beaded but always had a little bit of a sick feeling covering them up because they are so beautiful. I am so glad to see them highlighted in pieces and I intend to use them more. Bead embroidery can be difficult sometimes for me but I think using filigrees helps me to try more of that. Thank you for this article. All of the pieces in this article are gorgeous!❤️

So much inspiration! I have only started to use filigrees this past year and this article has certainly provided some wonderful ideas. The photo I’ve attached is the first time I used a filigree on a bead embroidery piece – I was thrilled how it turned out. It’s so nice that there are still businesses out there that make wonderful pieces for us to enjoy using. Thank you Beadingschool team for bringing them to us. 😊

Thank you for this article. It’s so amazing that we can still find traditionally hand made material for our beading. I have so big respect for these people and the knowledge and experience they’re carrying.
I’m pretty curious to see the Flower shield and the Excalibur shapes in my hands. But it doesn’t really matter, whatever filigree I have, it tells me how to incorporate to a jewel.
