Jewels from ‘The Celestial Lantern’ box

If you are a Beadingschool Academy Student, I highly recommend putting together ‘mini kits’ for the jewels you’d like to make!

This way, you can make sure that you can finish everything that you’d like to. There are many possibilities to use the precious content of the Box, as not only the Beadingschool Creative Team but fellow designers are also designing jewels for you, and sometimes you’ll need to make decisions about how you’d like to use a component or add something from your stash if you’d like to bead them all.

SPARKLING ERIKA NECKLACE AND EARRINGS BY HELENA TANG-LIM

This is one of another ‘dreams come true’. I’m so honored and happy Helena agreed to be at the birth of The Celestial Lantern Theme box and join us as our Guest Artist – you can more from her work here.

We all can learn and be inspired by her through her mastership over the years. I’ve admired her art, taught from her and watched her journey. Now, we all can learn from her by beading the statement necklace and earring she designed from the Theme box she named ‘Sparkling Erika’ – now comes the moment where I lost my words. Thank you, Helena, for everything you’re bringing to the beading world.

Helena’s design combines two kinds of bezels for the 27 mm round cabochon and the small 8×10 mm cabochons, connected together into a necklace. An elegant pair of earrings to match is a cherry on top of the cake!

STAR ANISE BY ERIKA

Once, during every Beadingschool Academy Theme, we bead a RETRO #NoOneHasToBeadAlone design. This time, we are returning to STAR ANISE bracelet. The motif can also be used to make a pair of delicate earrings. The tutorial was my contribution to International Beading Week 2020 and I’m very happy to have the chance to bead it again, in new Theme colors and a new perspective.

FORTITUDO BY ERIKA

For The Celestial Lantern collection, I went to the Latin language. I was surprised to learn, that there are many ways in Latin how you can say courage. When we have to create our own light instead of relying on others, we need lots of it! So I decided to name all three of my jewels after courage.

VIRTUS BY ERIKA

Virtus is a versatile motif that looks awesome as earrings (turned horizontally or vertically, but can also become a pendant, a luxurious ring, or even a bracelet. If the 4 motifs from a bag are not enough for you, consider adding bezeled cabochons and connectors in between!

SENNA EARRINGS BY VERONIKA

There is a story about a “superhero” called Senna. She had dark skin, dark hair, and glowing ethereal eyes. Fighting for lost souls against otherworldly predators, she guided them to peace with unrelenting bravery and beauty. I can easily see these earrings matching her outfit, serving as a magic artifact!

I like challenges, so I usually try to give myself some conditions when designing. This time I told myself, don’t go for a square stitch bezel around the rectangles, and take 2! Let’s see how it can be done :-).

GALADRIEL PENDANT BY VERONIKA

When I started to bead this jewel, I made it using light ovals. It was light and bright, but… something was missing. Then Erika suggested using black ovals. I was a little bit “scared” of it at first. But decided to give it a try. And suddenly, the whole piece got contrast and spark! And it reminded me of a quote from the Rings of Power series, about Galadriel: “Sometimes to find the light, we must first touch the darkness.” Beautiful and wise as she was, but once also young and rebellious, struggling to find her peace and her place in the world. Her story is such inspirational, that I decided to name my jewel after her.

On the other note, who said that we have to use only seed beads when making a peyote bezel? Let’s try it differently!

CHANG’E EARRINGS BY ZUZI

The light and the darkness represented in the bead selection of this Theme box really resonate in me these days. Hope for the light, fullfilled dreams, good in general is something that brings light to every night. And so does the Moon, reflecting the sunshine, being the silent wanderer.

The first design reminds me of both, night and day and the movement that doesn’t stop. I named it after the Chinese goddess of the Moon, Chang’e /ˈtʃɑːŋ.ə/, known for her beauty and loveliness. We’re going to bead these earrings as part of the #NoOneHasToBeadAlone.

LANTERN FLOWER BY ZUZI

I have to admit I didn’t bead (almost purely) with black for years! ‘The Celestial Lantern’ box is inspiring, challenging and opened my mind toward the new shapes in design, too. Reminded by the orchid petal and the lantern, I made this pair of earrings.  The motif can be easily extended and provides a several of options on how to finish it. We’re going to bead these earrings as part of the #NoOneHasToBeadAlone.

The very first jewel beaded by Ruxandra Puscas from the new box is Winter Star. Just like the real star, the motif of white pearly Round DropDuos is shining on the black canvas of the night sky! Add a pendant or beads to extend the length, or connect more motifs together.

HOPE’S GLOW PENDANT BY VICKY

Vicky continued and created this amazing sparkling pendant, named Hope’s Glow. The 27 mm round cabochon shine is enhanced by the 2.8 mm Preciosa Sew-on rhinestones. This tutorial is 3rd (extra!) signature jewel for this Theme and is part of Fuchsia and Turquoise Beadingschool Academy membership.

Another inspiring and admirable designer, Apollinariya Koprivnik, is coming as a guest to The Celestial Lantern Theme.  I’m so happy she’ll bead from the box! LUCKY NUMBER PENDANT 

I was joyous when I saw Polinka’s 27 mm round cabochon from ‘The Celestial Lantern’ Theme box.🤩 At first moment I haven’t realized the possible variations until I saw the second picture of the same bezel, but not with rectangle, but oval cabochons instead. 🥰
