Maria is a somewhat complex motif that uses individual elements, These elements are combined into one big mandala motif. As mandalas in general, you can stop at any moment and announce it finished, but why would you do that? 
You can decide to leave out the peyote petals and Chaton Montees or keep building the motif bigger and bigger!
