What is inside your Coral Garden Box?

I told you how our paths with Andrea crossed multiple times since we got to know each other in high school. It’s nearly 15 years ago that we both lived in Prague. And during that time we embarked on a journey together: to Malaysia and Borneo. Before I’d have continued with the first solo trip of my life across the island, we spent a few days together learning how to dive.

Before the trip, we saw multitudes of pictures of the beautiful underwater world awaiting us. However, when we have finally submerged, our minds would shout: how are you going to breathe? It didn’t matter that our instructors had explained patiently how the equipment works, the main message still didn’t sink in. As divers say: panic harms, not water. But our nervous system didn’t want to understand this right away. 

We were afraid of the unknown, but as later we could see, there was indeed a new world below the surface waiting for us. Beautiful, colorful, full of life, and thanks to the steady breathing: surprisingly calm.

The anxiety we felt in our bodies signaled the novelty – which is very normal, in diving and beyond. Just as with many other barriers that we need to cross in our lives (letting go of a job, relationships, maybe our birth country, a career path because they don’t suit as any more), we couldn’t believe and imagine what is awaiting us, until we trusted that we won’t be left alone, and whatever challenge appears, we can solve it thanks to the training we received.
